Roofing Inspection Tips To Protect Your Home & Save You Money
May 05, 2014Flowers are in bloom. Temperatures are finally warming up after a long, cold winter. Now’s the perfect time for a quick roofing inspection! Checking on your roof in Spring and again in the Fall will help diagnose any potential problems early, saving you time and money in the long run.
Before you grab your ladder and head outside, here are three key things to look for:
- Shingles that are buckling, curling or blistering, indicating the end of the shingles’ life.
- Loose material or excess wear and tear around chimneys, pipes, skylights and other items penetrating your roof.
- Excessive shingle granules in gutters. Granules give shingles added weight and protect them from ultraviolet rays. Finding excessive granules in your gutters is a sign of shingles nearing the end of their life expectancy.
You should also take care to look at walls and ceilings on the inside of your home to check for signs of water damage. Even small leaks can lead to costly repairs if they’re not caught early.
