How NOT to Install a Gutter
Jul 16, 2014We came across this image on the internet a while back of a ladder mishap that took place while a homeowner was installing a new rain gutter. Can you see what they did wrong?
As gutter and gutter guard installation and repair professionals, we had a good chuckle. Goolge the top home maintenance mistakes, though, and “ignoring gutters” is sure to be on just about any list you find. The men in the picture may have run into some trouble with their gutter installation, but we have to applaud the fact that they were at least paying attention to the gutters on their home.
The main purpose of your gutters is to protect your home’s foundation by channeling water away from its base. Gutters also help reduce erosion, prevent leaks into your basement or crawlspace, protect painted or stained surfaces by reducing water exposure, and provide a means of collecting rainwater for later use.
If your gutters are clogged or in need of repair, or worse- if you don’t have gutters on your home- you’re opening yourself to not only roof damage, but also water damage in your home.
Cleaning and inspecting your gutters on a regular basis will go a long way toward avoiding costly repairs. Installing gutter guards such as Leaf Relief by PlyGem will help prevent clogs before they start, taking some of the hassle out of gutter maintenance.
