At Southernwood, we believe that you’re only as good as your customers say you are. That’s why at the end of every project we ask our customers how we did. Are they happy with their finished home? Were the happy with the building process?

My wife and I heard that Andy Mudd was young, energetic and anxious to try new ideas. We contacted him and showed him the house site and the house plans. Both were challenging, to say the least. Other builders had hesitated once they saw the property and the plans, but Andy displayed enthusiasm and a positive “can do” attitude. As the house was being built, we constantly approached Andy about wanting modifications. He was always receptive to our ideas and was able to make every change. His patience was amazing and we sometimes felt guilty about bothering him so frequently with questions and requests. He let us know that he was there to serve us and that he intended to build our custom home exactly the way we wanted it, therefore, he expected us to be in constant communication with him. We even gave him pictures of rooms from Southern Living Magazine and said, “We want this room to look like that.” When all was said and done, the house was built perfectly. We were amazed at its strength, beauty and all the perfect little details. After six years, we are still living in that wonderful house. Thanks to Andy Mudd, our dream home came true.

We recently had a home built by Southernwood and wanted to share our experience with other families looking to build a new home. The experience my family and I had working with Andy and all the folks at Southernwood was absolutely phenomenal! From start to finish someone was always there to listen to our needs and concerns one-on-one since the owner is the builder and salesmen. It was so much different than past experiences we have had with larger builders where you get bounced around to a string of different people or a sales person sells you something you can’t have or build.
          We were also impressed by the quality of building products that Southernwood used. Everything was top of the line compared to other builders and that’s one of many things they stressed in our first meeting—they stay a few steps ahead, and in return, provide a much better experience and overall product. Having the option to bring them your own plan, have them customize it and then build it the way you envisioned it, was just an unbelievable experience. You just don’t get that option from other builders. I would definitely use Southernwood to build another home for my family if and when we needed to and highly recommend them to others interested in building a home.

We chose Southernwood to build our home because we wanted an affordable builder who would work with us to meet our needs. We were interested in someone who would lead and guide us, but not someone who would use their experience and knowledge to assert decision-making on us. We found this in Southernwood. And our experience could not have been better. Since we were first-time homebuilders, they did a lot of listening and provided lots of guidance on elements that we had not even considered. Every step of the way, they kept us within budget and within schedule. If there were variances, they were explained clearly. During the process, we were kept in the loop the entire time. They were highly responsive, resourceful and extremely flexible—everything that you would want in a good builder.
          The one attribute that stands out for me most was the personal characteristics of Andy Mudd during the process. Andy was unflappable. His calm demeanor and focus on customer service were at high levels, and he faced challenges and obstacles with an approach I valued and appreciated. In an industry dotted with change orders, weather patterns and sub-contractor challenges, Andy led our project with a high level of commitment.
          I would highly recommend Southernwood again. The product delivered was of high quality and customer service provided was tremendous. Because of the high level of detail that was planned over 8 years ago now with help and guidance from my builder, I can honestly say that I would make no major changes to my home and have no real regrets about decisions that were made. I can laugh now about decisions I struggled with (like whether or not to put in a laundry chute – what a lifesaver), and whether or not to put a brick skirt around my entire house (I am happy with my compromise). I do think about how I would make modifications to my home to meet future needs (i.e. finishing our basement, enlarging a pantry to accommodate my growing collection of serving pieces) and when the time comes, I know the first company to call, Southernwood.

We chose Andy Mudd to build our home five years ago and have never regretted that decision. We designed the home ourselves and were nervous about the process based on talking to many people who had a negative experience with building. We interviewed several builders and were immediately drawn to Andy. We had seen the quality of his product in other homes he had built and it was clear that he was competent, honest and communicative.
          After filing for a building permit we ran into some issues with the county regarding the private road that led to our lot. Southernwood went above and beyond their duty as our builder in helping guide us through these obstacles and eventually obtaining a permit. Andy was diligent in helping us resolve these issues in the timeliest manner and the most cost-effective manner. We began building late summer 2009 and moved into our new home February 2010. My husband and I found the process to be both easy and enjoyable, primarily due to Southernwood. Just like any other construction, we ran into minor obstacles that affected both cost and time and we made changes during the construction phase, one of which was a major change to the fireplaces. Southernwood was always open to the changes and informative and forthright about the options, cost and/or delay in time. There was constant communication throughout the entire process and we were welcome on site every day. We were also impressed with the group of outside contractors that Southernwood uses. All were highly skilled in their craftsmanship and all were as friendly and informative as the team at Southernwood.
          We have been in our home 3 months now and still admire the quality of the work every day. It is exactly what we envisioned when we started the challenge of designing it. It was through Andy and Southernwood sharing our vision that has made this house our home. The team at Southernwood is extremely skilled, professional, and efficient; but what sets this builder apart from other builders is the personal connection Andy shares with the clients through constant communication, artistic vision, and a sincere desire for the client to be happy with their end product. Together, these attributes made a potentially difficult process very easy and gave us a home that was everything we had imagined and more.
